Register for tryouts! AYSO EXTRA travel soccer for 2024-25

AYSO’s EXTRA program is designed for players who have the interest, skills, and abilities to participate in higher-level soccer.  The EXTRA program has several key advantages over other competitive soccer organizations:

Predictable schedule and local games: EXTRA games are only on Sunday afternoons and are played in either Highland Park or a neighboring suburb, helping parents retain control over their hectic weekends.

Guaranteed playing time: Rosters for EXTRA teams are limited, ensuring each kid is playing most of the game rather than sitting on the bench for long periods of time.

Professional coaching: Dedicated 90-minute training sessions for EXTRA players, held on Thursday evenings (5:30-7pm), are run by outside licensed soccer trainers from P2 Soccer.

Year-end Tournament: Highland Park competes against EXTRA teams from Deerfield, Winnetka-Glencoe, Glenview, Evanston, etc. The kids have a great time representing their town, and the season culminates with a tournament in late May befitting a real league.

No winter requirement: While EXTRA currently offers a winter training program, attendance is not required, freeing up the schedule for kids who play other sports during the offseason.

Cost: EXTRA costs only ~$400 on top of the core fees (all EXTRA players must also register for core), and financial assistance is available.

Tryouts for the 2024-25 season (which covers Fall 2024 + Spring 2025) are now open.  Please go to HPAYSO.org and select "Available Programs" for your interested child.  THERE IS NO FEE FOR TRYOUTS. Additionally, if you are interested in coaching an EXTRA team next year, please register as a volunteer (though volunteering to coach does not guarantee that your child makes a team).

Tryouts will be conducted by the trainers from P2, with input from experienced AYSO coaches and current Division Managers, and your child will be evaluated in both skills and attitude.  There are girls’ and boys’ teams in both U10 (kids who are 3rd/4th graders in 2024-25 school year) and U12 (5th/6th graders in 2024-25).

Tryouts will be on Thursday, May 2nd at Olson Park (for those currently in EXTRA, this will replace normal practice that evening).

For rising 3rd or 4th graders: tryouts will be from 5:30-6:30pm. (Please try to arrive by 5:15 to check in)

For rising 5th or 6th graders: tryouts will be from 6:45-7:45pm.  (Please arrive at 6:35 to check in)Please note that this is a competitive program/tryout, and there will be cuts made given the limited number of teams we form, and that spots are not guaranteed to returning EXTRA players.
